Sled Hockey
The Ronald G. Repka Foundation is also a sponsor of The Bob Chase Frostbite Sled Hockey Tournament.
Sled hockey uses almost all the rules of regular hockey games, with checking, passing and line changes. It is a sport that is played on the ice while seated in a sled. Though the sled is designed for people with lower-extremity disabilities, people without disabilities may also participate in this sport. The best shooters can blast the puck nearly 30 mph.
Each game consists of three equal playing periods, known as stop-time periods. If the game is tied at the end, one 10-minute stop-time overtime period is played. However, the game automatically ends when the first goal is scored. There are six categories of penalties that can be given at any time before, during and after the game.
